Sure.

Because they follow very different models of the development
organization, and they often have developed very different approaches
to solve some particular problem.  Because they have two almost
mutually incompatible positions regarding copyright problems.

Because of competition is still useful as a driving force for both
systems. :-)

They do, but rather in details than in some kind of global blubber.
