A Netcom account requires a '#' (pound sign) preceding the logon
strings for username and passwd, IF you are logging on with your
own TCP/IP stack operational. Otherwise, Netcom is expecting some
proprietary stuff that goes with the logon process within Netcruiser.

I.e., 

logon: #<yourusername>
password: #<yourpassword>
