My overall experience is that most of the problems are related to
hardware (and often then, poor software recovery from hardware
problems).  I've got pieces of excellent hardware (like my old EISA
board with its 486/33 and a Bt742A controller, it's still running,
though no longer at home), and only very few problems with it, even in
the development version.  (Though admittedly, i usually don't upgrade
the development machine very often; in particular, i avoid upgrading
during ``major trouble'' phases.)

OTOH, machines with from-the-corner hardware tend to come up with
suprises each other day... in particular, if you poke them harder.
