Last night I decided to hook up my FreeBSD box via a serial cable to a
Win95 machine....

step 1.
Edit /etc/ttys and include approriate device
ttyd1 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" unknown on secure

step2.
issued
	kill -HUP 1

step 3.
Use HypeTerminal on Win95 machine to connect
Used serial cable on com2 - 8 bit - no parity - 1 stop bit
9600bps, Hardware flow control.

This worked fine....so long as the shell on the login terminal was
"doing" something..
i.e. I could log in but unless there was ouput to the screen the
connection would collapse...

This resulted in a new login prompt being displayed...
Similarly, if I left the HyperTerminal running the login prompt would
routinely re-display itself....

So I tried using different entries in my /etc/tty

i.e.
ttyd1 "/usr/libexec/getty std.9600" cons25 on secure

I would either get a message on my FreeBSD box about the getty process
repeating too quickly, or no change in behaviour....

Can anyone tell me how I may approach setting this up ??
Do I have to tweak the entries in the /etc/termcap or /etc/gettytab
files ???

Ideally I want to set up an old XT with kermit running to enable
"remote" logins... (maybe the 15mtr serial cable is posing problems??)
But at the moment this isn't accessible.

Any help appreciated..
