Funny, i've read a report of that kind before, but still can't imagine
how this would happen.

Try booting with -s (at the Boot: prompt), so you'll go into single-
user mode.  Try to diagnose the problem, in particular, watch out for
what file /etc/rc is.

*plong* Ahem, no, i know what your problem is!  Your /sbin/init is
missing, so the kernel falls back to /stand/sysinstall.

Best advise: reinstall.  Your installation is seriously messed up for
some reason.  (Maybe a hardware problem, like bad RAM?)
