"Idiots" may do it wrong the first time, so don't execute step 6, but
copy the new kernel to a copy of a dist.fs/fixit.fs floppy and boot from
it, instead of booting from hard disk. A bad modification may crash 
your kernel during load and could damage the HD filesystem. A dist floppy
is not so expensive.
