I have a Cyrix586 100mhz motherboard with 32megs ram and 2HD's. A
2.1gig Fujitsu IDE drive and a 530Mb Western Digital drive, with an
IDE NEC 4x4 CD rom.

During installation of FreeBSD 2.1.6 from a dos partition on my 2.1
gig drive, dual boot with win95, I got the message "makedev returned
non-zero value, and installation seazed. Win95 occupied the first
400Mb, and FreeBSD the rest.

I then rebooted off the HD via the boot manager, and lo and behold,
FreeBSD starting booting, however, instead of completing to a login
screen of somekind, it went straith into the installation/setup
screen. On attempting any operation from this screen (like adduser
etc), I got the message that the file '/temp' could not be written as
it was a read only file system.

Thinking it migh be a problem with my drive/drive geometry, I then
changed drives and installed Win95 (first 150megs) and FreeBSD
(remaining 380 megs) on my 530Mb disk, and made that my 1st HD. The
result was identical to the above.

Any clues/hints about what could be wrong appreciated.
