The difference is that the intention in building the Lisp machine was
to have a faster machine for Lisp than general-purpose computers.

The Java stuff intends to be cheaper and people say in today's
computing world that's what makes the difference.

The argument that general-purpose CPUs have such a high speed in
price/performance development that both ways are doomed to fail may
still considered to be valid.

Right. Lisp is still the only real programming language :-)
