Hi

I am having problems concerning the stability of the FreeBSD console, and a can't figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions to the cause, or a solution???

Here's the story:

1) The power-save-console-secreensaver-mode messes up my console. The symptoms ranges from a locked keyboard to an actual reboot!!!! -The problem has occoured with other screen savers, so now I don't use any...

2) When returning to the console from X, the keyboard layout is often messed up. Sometimes the console completely locks.

In the case of the reboot, X was running on ttyv4, -so it might have been a conflict between xlock and the console-screen-saver. The console was in power-save, xlock may have been running in the background, and the machine rebooted when I tried to access the keyboard.

When the keyboard locks, it is always possible to access the machine via the network. This way I have tried the following:

a) I have killed the gettys by hand, with no result (except for a new getty).

b) I have made a kill -HUP 1 to make init reconsider the gettys, also with no result.

c) I have checked for programs which might be locking the console, and found none. In fact I killed all user-programs to be sure ;-)

As a result of the console mess, I haven't been able to achieve an uptime of more than 9 days. This leaves me with an gap of 12 days to my nearest Linux competitor, not a very pleasing situation.....

my setup is:

*FreeBSD 2.1.5, all programs -including X, has been installed as distributed on the CDROM.

*Pentium 100
*96Mb RAM
*Diamond Stealth Video 2Mb VRAM
