Shouldn't that be /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults?  Even with your
symlink, you still have a problem, as it's not linked from the right
directory.

You also have to watch the spelling of the filenames.  Any app-defaults
file that starts with "X" should also have the second letter capitalized,
e.g., "XCalc".
