I'm using a 2.1.0 system to send out alpha pages via HylaFax. Sometimes the
modem locks up, I can get to it with Kermit but get no response back.
Power-cycling the modem fixes this problem.

However, other times the serial port on the machine seems to lock up. Kermit
will hang when trying to set the line to /dev/cuaa1. Power-cycling the modem
has no effect, and only rebooting seems to fix it.

Is there anything else I can do (short of rebooting) to try and recover a hung
serial port? Any idea what would cause this?
