Probably not very. Of course, you wouldn't want to use "microsoft" or
something (or maybe you would?). :-) It would be wise, though, to have
your hostname use the same domain as your ISP (and make sure that it
doesn't conflict with any existing names within their domain).

For example, when I setup FreeBSD, I chose the name "dolphin" for my
machine (fully qualified: dolphin.neosoft.com). In reality, this "site"
does not exist (I'm on a dynamic dialup account, too). Any attempts to
finger/mail/etc. to it will fail.

The thing you have to be careful of is From and Reply-to addresses in
mail, news, etc. Fortunately, I can simply use conrads@neosoft.com, and
my ISP takes care of forwarding my mail to the proper server. Your
mileage may vary, of course.

If your ISP is *really* nice, perhaps they'd be willing to setup a forward
from your pseudo-sitename to your correct e-mail and a route to your
(current, for each session) IP address. Or they might tell you to get
real and get a fixed IP account. :-)
