You've run afoul of your first bug, congrats. :-)

This is a well-known evil, and all I can recommend is that you not mount
that DOS partition until we have it fixed (next few weeks should see a
complete rewrite of msdosfs).  In the meantime, I can only suggest
mtools, which you'll find in the ports collection.

See the bibliography section of the handbook.  I recommend UNIX in a
Nutshell from O'Reilly (which you'll find there) and Evi Nemeth's book
on system administration.
