I am using this solution also. I was rooting around in the source code
this week and came across the /usr/src/sys/i386/boot/biosboot directory.
It looks like uncommenting the BOOT_HD_BIAS=1 in the Makefile will make
this problem go away, if I can figure out how to get the resulting code
loaded into the boot sectors. I got the make, followed by make install
part, but it looks like that only puts the output into /usr/mdec. How do I
get it (or do I need it) into the boot sector?

The post I put up a couple of weeks ago about kernel panic 12's was solved
by installing the freebsd system on a scsi disk. Either I missed the
configuration for it or version 2.15 doesn't like a PCI IDE adapter.

Thanks
