What sort of modem is it ?  I use USRs of various types with FreeBSD => demon,
so I know they work ok.  I've never heard of any other modems with problems.

If your modem isn't an obscure (untested) one, I'd suspect your UARTs - are
they built onto the MB ? - or are we talking "internal modem"s ?
