I would guess that assumes I'm using a USR modem as well. Since I'm not,
I expect that would require a higher price tag. Meanwhile, my current
hookup with 33.6K also negotiates VJ 01 compression (whatever that's
good for) with my ISP, and both are happy.

This path is more likely for me. I live in the middle of the triangle
between Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis, MD. There are several
ISPs here which accept ISDN.
