I too am interested in this problem. I have been unable to get 2.1 to
make a decent dialout connection. I get what appears to be a connection
but am unable to ping or do anything using the tcpip stack. Examples
sent to me by BSDI tech support, which they say work for them, will not
work for me.
 
Using my same hardware setup, Caldera linux ppp works fine.
