Subject: HOW DO I RUN A PROG. UPON USER LOGIN?

I am co-sysop of three Apollo DN3500 machines running DomainOS 10.3 with
bsd4.3. I have managed to locate /etc/motd to get a message printed at startup.

What I would like to do is be able to have a random message printed at startup,
like a different saying for each login. I have a programm to do this, and
I have a long list of "hype" lines.

My problem is this. How do I get the program to run on login, other than
putting it in each person's .login, where it could easily be erased. I know
that login_sh (?) is what is run on login, but this is a binary file, and
I do not even wish to ATTEMPT to mess around with it.

Is there any possible way to do this? Any thoughts on how to do this would be
greatly appreciated. Have any of you done this before? Or anything like it?

Please e-mail all responses to ennsnr@phi.brandonU.ca, as I am not registered
to this group. (although I may be soon!)

Thank you all in advance for reading, and maybe even RESPONDING to this letter
