i have been following the "use ppp on demand thread", and this
afternoon, i tried to get my new installation set up. i checkout out the
handbook and tried the relevent stuff there, as well as what the posts
suggested.
when i type "ppp javanet" the following happens:
starts up ok.
dials ok!
login ok!
ppp ON helios (my computer)> Packet mode.
i try pinging javanet to see if things work.
no luck, so i quit.
here's the log from /var/log/ppp.log:
Using interface: tun0
*Connected!
LCP: state change Initial --> Closed (what is this?)
LCP: state change Closed --> Stopped
PPP Started.
Disconnected! (but the modem doesn't drop carrier until i type quit!)
Connect time 42 secs. (i just hung on long enough to find that nothing
works)
Phase: Dead
LCP: LayerStart
Phase: Establish
LCP: state change Stopped --> Starting
PPP Terminated.

sorry for the length of this. i'm a complete novice to uni/freebsd so I
would REALLY appreciate some help!
if it matters, the connection uses a dynamic ip.
