This appears to have evolved in a different direction in post-2.2 ALPHA;
now the info files are no longer split at all. :-)  Given that few
people are now downloading info files over 2400 baud modems, this makes
some sense (and dealing with split info files was hell on the viewer
program!).

Yes, in the future please use the send-pr(1) command (or visit
http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html) to submit a proper bug report. 
USENET is probably the very worst place to report bugs if you want
something actually done about them. :-)

[and no cracks from the peanut gallery about how even a PR# is no
guarantee that a problem will be looked into - we do the best we can
with the resources available, and with the PR system it's at least
*recorded* somewhere so you can shame us properly with the ancient PR#
when you come back to complain 6 months later. :-)  A very reasonable
percentage of PRs are also closed within 24 hours of being reported,
believe it or not.]
