I'm running 2.1.5-RELEASE on a 486-DX66/16M. I've configured my kernel
for sound (sb0), and IDE ATAPI support (/dev/wcd0c, wcd0), BUT for some
reason, it won't play audio cds, because it claims /dev/rcd0c is not
configured.

I've tried re-making the device, and including rcd0 in my KERNEL file (then
re-building the kernel), but to no avail. The audio CD player still won't
work with xmcd (or any other CD player).

Here's a snippet of my dmesg:

wdc0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 on isa
wdc0: unit 0 (wd0): <QUANTUM MAVERICK 540A>
wd0: 504MB (1032192 sectors), 1024 cyls, 16 heads, 63 S/T, 512 B/S
wdc0: unit 1 (atapi): <FXN01DE/S02>, removable, intr, iordis
wcd0: 299Kb/sec, 128Kb cache, audio play, 255 volume levels, ejectable tray
wcd0: no disc inside, unlocked

It appears that I'm using mcd0, but I've been able to use the generic
IDE/ATAPI drivers, so I'm not certain (dang, I hate to say that).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
