As a minimum you need the files in the /bin. For a basic install get the
files in /bin /doc /manpages /dict.

I have had no luck installing FreeBSD. I downloaded the files to
floppies and tried to install on 2 different hard drives. It goes OK
until i get to the 6th /bin diskette then I get a write error (on both
hard drives at the same diskette). I downloaded the /bin files several
times to different diskettes. It still fails at the same place. Oh well.
I gave up and ordered the CD. Waiting for it now.

I don't know how to get rid of the boot manager. Maybe someone else
does.
