I'm going to be eventually installing FreeBSD 2.1.6 on my machine. I
am curious to know the present pros and cons of sendmail vs. smail.
The two primary issues I am concerned with are robustness and ease of
configuration. I would like to hear from both sysadmins and FreeBSD
users who have used both.

In the past I have preferred smail as the mailer program for Unix based
machines. Partially because I did not like the heiroglyphics of
sendmail.cf files. :) I even went to the extreme of disabling sendmail
on the company Sun and installing smail.

The system will be configured as a dialup PPP client for a local ISP.
The ISP will be the be providing all internet services to the outside
world. Mail will be handed off to the ISP for routing.

I recall the ease of configuration of smail over sendmail which is why
I was using for under SCO Xenix when I was just using UUCP to transport
mail many moons ago to the local dial in mail server I was using.

On a related note, I would like to receive an i ndepth reference on
the configuration of sendmail.
