I accept the rebuke regarding posting to news as root. I thank Peter for 
his suggestion to using a passive device. 
 
With a bit of hind-sight, it may not be possible to perform this check 
on a true pentium - the only place where I saw this check 
actually performed was on a 486 with a pentium overdrive.  On a true 
pentium there does not seem to be a control signal back to the cpu ..
