|!! Julian: can you comment on whether and how someone interesting in work
| can obtain a list of workgroups (posted some time ago) and can participate
| in such a group by e-mail only?
|

With respect to all this, I said some weeks ago that I would start
compiling such lists. The ported software list is almost ready and will
be out this week.

The current projects list is not ready mainly because very few
registered an interest in any areas of work. I will be looking at some
way of compiling a list from the info on ref.tfs.com and I'll probably
get something out this week on that as well. Basically the problem is
that there are plenty of people working on things out there but in
isolation. I don't want to collect names off the net without them
contacting me and expressing an interest in being included because it
would not be fair to them to suddenly find they're responsible for a
particular area of the work.

I did contact Lynee about all this and she said that if I could get such
a list compiled they would look at splitting it up into workgroups that
can get these things sorted for future incorporation. She also hinted
that it's time to let people know which direction future releases would
be taking. Therefore, the sooner people let me know what they're working
and what their wishlists are, the sooner I can compile this working
groups list and the sooner Bill and Lynne can decide what's going to be
done.

With regards a mailing list -- I think the Linux system is pretty good.
Maybe we should adopt that. For those that have never used ( I haven't
for a long time, it may have changed), it's basically like using
newsgroups but it works using mailing lists so only those "subscribed"
to a particular forum will get the mail.
