I too had the same card... I dinked around with it for about a day,
saw that the 2.1.6R was out, did an install of that, got it to
recognize the controller and all seemed well... Well, not quite. The
problem seemed to be that on powerup, the controller would detected my
Fujutsu 4.3gig no problem. BUT, when I did a shutdown -r now, at boot
up time, the card would not see the drive, no BIOS would be installed,
and no dice on accessing the drive of course :-(

Since I needed the machine to run fairly soon, I "downgraded" to a run
of the mill 2940A and the card and drive seem to be working fine.
(Adeptec support BTW didnt know the specific reason why this was
happening, but I suspect it might be a general problem with these new
cards... While waiting in the support queue there was a 'FAQ' type
bulletin describing this problem and that the solution was to make
sure that the drive target was 1 or 0 (which it always was)... The
Adeptec guy also reccomended that I switch to a UW, and they in fact
said they would exchange the card for me at no cost which I thought
was a pretty decent offer. However, I could not afford to wait)
