 There are several GOOD shareware programs out there that allow you
to print directly to network printers and to BSDish lpd's as well. One
of the ones we use here is "Windows LPR Spooler" (email th.heil@kfa-juelich.de).
It also comes with a JetDirect driver for HP laserjets.

  Solaris allows SystemV or BSDish ... but you are right, System V is
whacked.
