If this is not the appropriate place for this post, please set me in the
right direction.

This is my third posting on this question, hopefully this time will be a
charm....

I have been working with FreeBSD for about five months now. I am by no
means an expert, but I am rather familiar with the Novice install
routine. I have been having problems with FTP installs using a modem.
The last boot floppy that I had success with was the 960606 SNAP.
Everthing goes OK until I have to start the PPP connection on virtual
terminal 3. I enter the authname, authkey, and timeout values and then
proceed to talk to the modem. As soon as I type "term <enter>' I cannot
see any input from the keyboard in the terminal window and I cannot get
the modem to respond. User PPP works just fine once the system is
installed and rebooted (I installed an old SNAP via CDROM).

I just don't understand what is going on. I can however, use the 960606
SNAP boot floppy and establish a working PPP session. As a test, I used
the boot floppy that works and pointed it at the latest SNAP directory
on the FTP server. This experiment worked alright. Unfortunately some
of the files that are copied into the filesystem are from the floppy and
this causes problems (/etc/sysconfig and the such ?). My system
comfiguration is as follows:

No Name Motherboard w/Triton Chipset 82437(TSC)/82438(TDP)/82371(PIIX)
Award BIOS (2A59CW0J)
SMC 37C665GT Floppy Drive Controller
Pentium 100
16 MB Ram
Serial Mouse on COM1 (IRQ4/03F8)
28.8 Modem on COM2 (IRQ3/02F8)
Parallel Port (IRQ7)

The motherboard manual says that serial, parallel, and FDC are plug and
play compatible.
The dual channel EIDE controller is on the motherboard also.

I am really eager to find out what is going on. At the very least, I
would like to know what is different about the old boot floppy that
works and the newer ones that don't.
Please Help
TIA
