But *how* does it use threads?  Which of the NT threading models
does it use?

o	Apartment threaded
o	Rental threaded
o	Free threaded

Please consult the online doc for MSVC++ 4.2 (the latest release)
before replying.  You will be enlightened about the inability to
run threading inre: foundation classes (specifically ODBC), and
the inability to produce ActiveX container objects using the
tools Microsoft sells.  Apparently, all vendors are supposed to
commoditize their products and plug them into products you buy
from Microsoft...
