I run freebsd and linux on a cyrix p133+ with 16meg RAM
works great! ;-))

FPU?  well... depending on what kinds of applications you run, you may or
may not need FPU.  If you use any math, or graphics intensive apps, you 
may want to have a good fast fpu, i.e. CAD

However, I think most people would NOT need a FPU.

if you want to upgrade to Cyrix, make sure your motherboard is 
supported by cryix.  Check the cyrix homepage for a list
