One potential note of a warning only:

If your system crashes while the serial ports were active (lots of
data flowing so some interrupt requests are still pending), the
affected ports usually fail to probe after a reboot.  This is a known
problem with no known fix, except for another volunteerly reboot.

Apart from this, sax.sax.de is using a Boca 2016 with great success in
a similar environment.
