Ok, I had capital B instead of lowercase b.

Ftp did report the 1.1Mb/S figure, it just missed typed the case on the
B.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't this possible?

I was also astonished at the speed, but this was across two machines
sitting next to eachother on a shared ethernet hub. I don't believe the
cards or hub support full duplex. I know their wasn't to many people on
the network, because of the latness of the hour this was done.
