Helical SCAN is horrible.. I agree with the Tandberg 2.5G, I have one
here that works fine. But then again, I picked it up for $ 3 :-)
so it's price/performance cannot be beaten.

If you have very large amounts of data consider a second hand DLT
tape drive. Keep in mind media for these beasts is quite expensive.

Make sure this external box has a sensible cooling system.. Especially
things like Exabyte helical scan units really like to stay cool
(especially the tape media itself)
