This is not strictly true.  You *can* export multiple directory trees from a 
single file system, but must format your /etc/exports file differently.
  
/x/nfs /x/tmp /x/home -maproot=bin: -network 223.254.2 -mask 255.255.255.0
/cdrom -maproot=bin: -network 223.254.2 -mask 255.255.255.0
  
I have a single large file system on a second disk, mounted as /x, and 
selectively directory trees by including them on the same line.  This is 
unfortunately not well documented.
