: Make sure you have ATAPI support compiled into your kernel. Look in:

: /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC and LINT for more info.

I've got the options ATAPI compiled into MYKERNEL, but it still doesn't
produce a device that I can mount. I'm wondering if the controller is the
problem. When i got the computer, controller 0, had the HD connected to
it, and controller 1, had the CD-ROM attached to it. I tried connecting
the CD-ROM (NEC) to the same controller 0, with the HD on at the same
time, but then i get a controller error. I also jumpered the CD-ROM as a
slave, same error. If it's a hardware problem, will BSD be able to probe
the controller and attached CD-ROM? The factory installed hardware set up
is probeable. How can I tell if it's a hardware or software problem?

Thanks in advance,
Kelvin
