It's just since they don't use rotational heads, thus their entire
mechanics is more robust, and the tape is less prone to being damaged.
OTOH, the cartridges are more expensive than DAT.  OTOH^2, if you've
got access to the old tape pool of some company, you might get a dozen
or more QIC-150 cartridges for free which are still fine for the
smaller backups or data exchange with other parties.  (There used to
be allot of software updates etc. in the industry that has been
shipped on QIC-150 cartridges before the invention of CD-ROMs.  We've
got a pile of at least 50 of them, most from IBM...)

See my other article.  It's plug and play for FreeBSD-current, but
not for 2.1.5 (my fault, i forgot to move the patch over there).

I'm really interested in your test results for my patch!
