I had to go with #2.  HD1 master on controller 0, CD slave on controller 0, 
HD2 on controller 1.  In this configuration, I also had to install FreeBSD on 
HD1.  The install would always hang when installing to HD2.

Note:  I could get FreeBSD loaded on HD2 when it was hooked up as the slave 
on controller 0.  However, it wouldn't see the CDROM on controller 1, even 
when set as a master device w/o a hard disk installed on the controller as 
well.
