HA !  I spent about 4 hours yesterday trying to install an old 1542B into
a machine using a "known to work" external scsi drive.  It turned out that
the (brand new) external cable was crap !  It never occurred to me that
I didn't actually know that it was ok.  The moral of *this* story.....
assume everything is broken until proven otherwise !
