Unfortunately, "ATAPI" is not enough information to make a drive
and a driver cooperate.  8-|.

For releases before the 2.2 SNAP's (which have a lot of fixes for
ATAPI drives), you should make sure that the CDROM is on the
slave port or on a second controller to have the best chance of
working.

Failing that, you should probably use the 2.2-SNAP.
