I have been able to successfully set up my
user PPP under FreeBSD 2.1 to connect to my HP workstation
at work. I can telnet from my machine to my workstation
using its IP and everything in that (telnet) xterm works
great and relatively fast. I then execute xhost+ on my
end and setenv DISPLAY IP:0.0 on my workstation's end.
I then attempted to start a simple xapp to see what
happens. I executed xcalc& in the telnet term. After
about 45 secs I got the outline of xcalc but the app
never became usable (had the frame but nothing in it...)
Any ideas what could be causing this problem? I'm trying
to set up so I can telecommute but it isn't going very
well so far. My other option would be to get Windows95 and
use something like Exceed but I'd rather not get Windows95
if there is any way I could avoid it.... Any help is greatly
appreciated on this one! btw, all text output in the telnet
window is relatively fast, ie: ls, cat, vi etc...
