Well, you don't actually have to have a script if your login sequence is
particularly complex.  Just use ppp's `term' command to log in through
all those BBS screens and start ppp, at which point ppp will notice that
you've got ppp on the other end and drop you automatically out of
terminal mode.  You can then switch to a different tty and use the net. 
When you're ready to drop your connection, go back to your ppp window
and do so.
