Having a mount_hfs is not sufficient, you will also need a filesystem for that.

However, tell your Mac folks to use DOS formatted disks; then you can work
with those with mtools or a DOS filesystem.

On the Mac, your friends will need to install PC Exchange (part of MacOS
7.5 and avalible for free online).
