What must one do to get gray scale under X on a Mac SE/30? Hardware or hammer?

I'd love to do X on an SE/30 in anything other that 1 bit! I've got quite a

bit of Unix internals behind me if I had to I could fix/modify NetBSD, I

really looked at the source yet but... Anyway an help/suggestions in this area

would be help full. Please send e-mail or post.
