: I am a first time user/installer of FreeBSD. I had a couple questions
: that most FreeBSD users will probably know.

: Q - Does the install process prompt you to set the root password ?

Can't remember for sure - I don't think so - I think it's left blank.
Use "passwd root" to set it.

: Q - Would the 4.4BSD manuals be of any help ?

help w/ what ? If you mean help w/ installing, probably not - but there
is a manual (now distributed by Walnut Creek & available electronically).

: Q - I can't telnet in as root. What file do I need to change ?

/etc/ttys if you really want to - you can probably add "secure" to
the end of the pseudo terminal lines. However, it's better to telnet
as a regular user & use "su".

: Q - I set up a user account for my self, and would like to be
: able to su to root. The console tells me that I do not belong
: to the right group. What group should I belong to ?

Wheel - or group 0. Put your name at the end of the first line in
/etc/group (the name list is comma seperated).

: Q - How do I start the X interface that I configured during the
: install process ?

The "startx" script.
