I'll second this - from the routed side anyway.  I've got 'routed -q'
running on my laptop.... I plug into the network at work and see the
RIP broadcasts.... fine.  I then dial the 'net while connected, and
suddenly lose use of the work router..... (I lose a bunch of my
RIP-advertised routes - including all the "I'm allowed on this one"
subnets).  All I've done is added a static default route (via ppp).  Even
when I "route flush" or "route delete default", routed ignores the RIPs
that advertise the other LAN networks.... :(

Oh well, some day I'll look into gated.
