It turns out that the documentation in 2.1.5 is wrong.  You do need to include
LINUX_COMPAT in the kernel config file.  I had grep'd for this symbol in the
kernel sources, but I didn't grep everywhere.  Hence, I missed the uses of
it in sys/i386/i386.
