I've been having difficulty recently getting a direct serial connection -
I've never had problems w/ my modem. The direct serial problems seemed
to solve themselves when I spawned the getty on the cua device (not ttyd)
after first running kermit on both ends w/ the correct DTR speed and seeing
the link work that way.... I couldn't get the ttyd devices to do
anything. Incidently, my "no trouble modem" is sitting on cuaa3 and
*not* ttyd3 !

Of course 8bits no parity 1 stop bit is a must, but you know that if you
already dial out !
