I'm trying to install 2.1.5 Release on PC with following configuration:

100MHz Pentium
16MB RAM
1GB EIDE hard disk (Seagate)
3com 3C509 combo Ethernet card
S3 Trio64 PCI video card.

I'm trying to install using FTP from sunsite.mff.cuni.cz (the nearest
FTP server to me). After I select media for installation, the interface
to use (ep0), setup all parameters for ifconfig the installator
successfully finds the FTP server in DNS. unfortunately that's also the
last thing that it is able to do over the net. Messges on VTY2 confirm
that interface initialization was successful, default route was
configured succesfully but if I try to COMMIT the installation I get
stuck with message "Trying to login to FTP server.." and after timeout I
receive message saying that it is unable to connect to the FTP server.
I'm running tcpdump on other machine connected to the same LAN and I can
see that after the DNS lookup the machine I'm installing is not sending
any packets. I also cannot ping to it. I've tried ifconfig in the shell
on VTY4 and the interface seems to be configured correctly (ip address,
mask, broadcast, flags). The 3C509 has the PnP stuff turned off and I've
configured it to use the UTP port (using the DOS configuration program).
In the interface configuration dialog I'm setting "link0 link1" as extra
options for ifconfig (in order to make the ep driver to use UTP). I've
tried it also without those options with same results. I've tried the
card in another machine (with FreeBSD 2.1.5) and it worked fine. The
funniest thing is that I've already managed to install FreeBSD on this
machine (using the same setup and the same FTP server) but than I've
trashed my root partition by formatting DOS partition preceding it on
the disk. The reasons why this happened are also quite fuzzy but I admit
that I've probably started from the wrong end ie. installing FreeBSD
first and than trying to install DOS. No I've started from the other end
(DOS first) but I've got stuck on the network card problem.

Please, help. I'm completely out of ideas.
