Me too. :)

I've been trying to configure my Acer 8x CD-ROM with FreeBSD for several
days now. Glad to see someone else has the same problem. According to
the manuals for it, it's an EIDE CD-ROM, and I'm not a hardware person, but
according to the LINT configuration file, EIDE is not supported at this
time. I've added the ATAPI & wcd0 lines (incidentally, is it
"controller wcd0" or "device wcd0"... LINT's config says "device" but the
manuals (including the one @ Freebsd.org) say "controller"... neither work.)
but when I try to mount it, all I get is "Device not configured". It IS
jumpered as a slave device, I'm running a P-120 with 16MB Ram and a 2.5Gig
HD, 500MB of which is FreeBSD's. If anyone else has managed to find a way
to get it working, OR you need a guinea pig to try something new on, I'm
more than willing to try it.
BTW I have a PNP Sound card (Diamond)... I have no way of telling whether
BSD finds it at boot time. What sort of thing should I look for during
boot? Or is FreeBSD just so cool that it finds it automatically?

Many thanks to anyone who Knows The Answer and shares it...
