There is no default driver in the kernel for this card.

Check dejanews; there is someone who claims to have written a
driver for the card, and to be using without problems.  You will
need to get a boot kernel from him, or you will need to use a
different controller to install, then switch after you build a
new kernel (either way, you will need his driver).
